Portable Airfield Lighting Systems
Laser Guidance, Inc.
has developed a variety of laser and LED powered
aircraft landing aids for both military and commercial use. Integrated
Design Services supports Laser Guidance in developing
these and other systems, providing mechanical design, solid modeling,
drafting and PCB layout services.
The upper
photo shows the Laser Centerline Localizer (LCL), which uses laser
light
to provide line-up signals for pilots on approach to landing. This
project required accurately packaging a large number of optical and
electronic components in a relatively compact space. IDS also designed
the custom sheet metal enclosure, weather cover, adjustable legs and
several custom optical mounts.
The lower photo shows the Portable Airfield Lighting System (PALS), a
self contained highly mobile trailer based system that provides
complete approach and landing lights for a 5000 ft runway. The system
had to be compact and lightweight yet rugged, seemingly contradictory
requirements that were successfully met. This system has seen service
with US troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
