Orca Photonics
Systems supplies state of the art laser, electro-optic,
and automation systems. Integrated Design Services works closely with
Orca, providing mechanical design, solid modeling and drafting
support. These pictures show the Acapella 5K, a
system designed for use by the University of Washington's Genomation
Laboratory to fill and process capillary tubes for DNA studies in
support of the Human Genome Project. The design required extremely
delicate handling and precise positioning of the small (approximately
.040" diameter x 2.0" long) glass tubes, and a high degree of fault
tolerance. The lower photo shows a close-up of the capillary
hopper/feeder mechanism. The system will process
approximately 5000
capillary tubes per 8 hour shift. |
